Today Spence Peterson, age 14, achieved a dream by taking 1st place at the USA Cycling Cross-Country Mountain Bike National Championships in Sol Vista, Colorado. Spence rides for Above Category Racing’s Junior Team, a team that he helped launch with the support of Chad Nordwall, owner of Above Category bike shop, Mill Valley. “Mill Valley is considered to be the mountain bike capital of the world to many, and it seemed that it was about time that we have a junior team in Mill Valley to support and motivate young athletes interested in the sport,” says Nordwall. Spence, captain of the team, was joined by teammates Skyler Taylor, and Jack Keane who placed 10th in the 13-14 age group. AC teammate Bjorn Fox of Stinson Beach placed 12th in the 15-16 cross country and 14th in the short track competition. “We are proud to be representing Above Category at Nationals this year”, says Peterson, “and it feels good that the team did so well. We are grateful for the support we received from Above Category, our coach, Craig Upton, and Edge Composites. With two top 10 finishes, this is a great day for the Above Category Junior Team”.
